  • Elephants Shirt Photo Shoot: Having a Bogart Moment…

Posted on 27/08/2013 by David in My Handmade Closet.

We all have fantasies – personally I have lots – but some can be harder to fulfil than others. So what do you do when your latest shirt brings back memories of the 1951 movie The African Queen with Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart? And you spot Bogart wearing a stripy green and white shirt that is similar in design and colour as your short trousers? Exactly! That was meant to happen and this is when the fun begins! Obviously I shouldn’t lose focus on modelling my new shirt…

But I’m no Bogart of course…and I certainly couldn’t play “the African Queen” because this part was actually taken by a boat in the movie…and I don’t do boats. Never mind all that! I won’t be the one spoiling my fun so I decided to have my very own Hollywood moment and release my inner Bogart – a younger and cheap version of the icon that was much admired and respected. I am well aware I may just have killed a myth in your eyes…please kindly try to deal with it.

PS: None of my lungs were harmed during the photo shoot. That was just a paper cigarette.

I couldn’t concentrate! The fired bullet scene backfired big time.

I enjoyed your photo shoot pictures. Inspires me to do a “shoot” with my next project.

That’s the fun bit! I hope you do it with the 1940’s shirt pattern you’re currently working on…looking forward to the result! 🙂

Thanks for not covering yourself with leaches! I’m totally loving this untucked look for summer. Fabulous!

Haha, I certainly was not ready to re-enact that scene in the movie for the sake of my readers! Thanks for the lovely compliment by the way. I must say I really like the originality of your designs and choices of fabrics…I love quirkiness! 🙂

I think you really did a good job with these fabrics, compared to the Paul Smith shirt. Your shirt is a more stylish look because it uses the elephant print in a more well thought out way.

About Bogie shirt a good reference may be the uniform of spanish privates in the cuban-american war, the “rayadillo” (little stripes).
