When this post goes out, I’ll be somewhere far, far away where internet connection is a distant memory and technology isn’t on the agenda so, if everything goes to plan, my lovely boyfriend should have pushed the “Publish” button on my behalf today.
Let’s rewind to a few days ago, just before I left, and talk about Me-Made-May 2014. I didn’t initially want to commit my cute little butt to the challenge but there’s a lot to admire about the concept behind MMM’14. It encourages you to wear your own handmade clothes as many times as you can throughout the month. It’s very popular and a myriad of people have already signed up, girls mostly – wait, girls only (as far as I can tell) – so I thought it would be good to bring a male perspective to this challenge with a selection of my own garments.
After rummaging through my wardrobe and trying different combos, I’ve managed to pull 4 different handmade looks that I would be totally and utterly happy to wear this month. And guess what? A different pair of shoes to go with each of them! (Sorry girls, no high heels I’m afraid).
Ok, let’s go through the list…
An original daytime look for driving a car or spending time at the seaside. You probably know by now this shirt is a favourite of mine; it’s already been worn many times and still going strong!
Super casual and very comfy, I love the way the shirt goes with the jeans. Ok, I didn’t make this pair of jeans from scratch but I remodelled it to give it a hippy-ish twist. Perfect for the warmer days in May.
At the other end of the weather spectrum, this look will come handy to wear for the cooler days or evenings ahead (it’s London after all) and, doesn’t it feel great to combine three handmade garments in one same look?
Combining my first ever pair of trousers with the quirky elephants shirt. I’m inclined to call it my WTF look because, well, it’s quite an odd combo really but I think I’m pulling it off thanks to the tie (my only concession to something not handmade but it just shows the power of accessories to unify a look!).
Any favourite outfit on that list?
Love the shorts. I may have to steal this idea. 🙂
My fave outfit is the grey/red shirt with the sailor trousers.
I’m loving MeMadeMay this year too. Though I have been getting a few stares on the school run 🙂
Good stares hopefully Karen 🙂
Some good, some suspicious. I live in Legginsville. Twinned with Hoodietown 🙂
LOL, I’m having a much clearer picture now 🙂
I love the whimsical edge to all your projects. Thanks for proving my theory that when we wear our “me made ” clothes, we bring just a little more joy to the world.
Well said Duane!
All of your outfits are winners!
Aww, that’s so nice Wil 🙂
What great outfits! – different, quirky but very stylish – exactly the reason why we should all make our own clothes. I love them all, but my absolute fav is the sailor outfit

Thanks Gill…as a matter of fact I’m wearing the sailor outfit today 🙂
