  • Nadia’s Silk Birthday Dress: The Big Reveal!

Posted on 19/11/2013 by David in The Women I Sew For.

You’ve known about this handmade silk dress  for over a month and you’ve read about my challenges and struggles  to make it happen. Now is time for the big reveal! The dress of course but also the very special person I did it for. Here’s a little insight into Nadia’s “fantasy world”…

Nadia always nurtured dreams of her own. She initially aspired to be the Next Marlene Dietrich since falling in love with The Blue Angel

Over time she whittled down her ambitions and fancied herself as the next Bond girl, sexy, savvy…

…and with a licence to kill!

Life being harsh to aspiring actors and actresses, Nadia eventually settled for a North Korean version of The Grudge which was released straight to home-video. I haven’t seen it but was told that Nadia’s performance was her finest work to date.

Kim Jong-un, the North-Korean leader, is allegedly a fan! So much that he uses the footage in his prison camps to visually torture his political opponents and force them to confess. It just shows that even a self-centred brat can demonstrate some artistic sensibility despite executing 80 of his own people earlier this month for “watching foreign films”. (Sod it! I only ever got one visitor to my blog from North Korea…surely that can’t be that fat little man in an absurd boiler suit?).

But there was a career-defining moment when Nadia accepted to be the face for Mr Muscle surface cleaners. A smart move from the S.C. Johnson & Son advertising team I reckon. After all, how likely are you to find your husband scrubbing down the floor?

Nadia is an art lover too. She thinks of her body as a living artwork and enjoys proving her point now and again…

Despite this impressive résumé, Nadia is a simple girl at heart. She likes climbing trees…

    …playing with leaves…

    …and gossips

She isn’t afraid to look silly…

…and loves a laugh too. It’s very contagious!

That’s why she’s been my best friend for the last 14 years and I raise my glass for plenty more to come!

What a blast we had on her birthday! She looks absolutely fabulous in her birthday dress!

Lots of love to you my dear friend xxx

Climbing a tree in high heels – quite adventurous!!

The dress looks really good to me. Silk seems like it would be a tough fabric to work with.

She maybe a tomboy at heart but Nadia would never be seen photographed without her high heels! 🙂
