  • The Nautical Outfit Debate: Versatile or Predictable?

Posted on 18/10/2013 by David in My Handmade Closet.

Should clothes be typecast? Famous artists such as Marlene Dietrich or David Bowie have shown in the past that you can play the androgynous card with great success. But what about Nautical trousers including the pair I’ve recently made? Should I wear them in summer? (It’s just gone) On a boat? (I get seasick) Or when I walk on the beach? (It’s miles away). Surely there’s got to be some other ways…

Let’s think a little. The summer may well and truly be over but Halloween is only a week away! What about a Pirates outfit? I wonder if I could bag myself a job on the Disneyland parade…

Any children behaving badly? Forget the treat! Let the outfit do the trick!

Last time I was moaning about the lack of elegance of my Nautical trousers. Fortunately for me, I found inspiration and invaluable wisdom in Britney Spears’ latest song “You Better Work Bitch”. And so I did!

    Chicago musical look?

    Jean Paul Gaultier chic?

The back shot never fails to amaze me!

Bored of wearing the same old grey suit at work? The “Business Nautical look” might just be the answer for you! Just don’t put on that stupid trout face…

    …that’s better!

So to conclude dear readers, is the Nautical look really that versatile or should I stick to basics?

The sailor outfit is priceless, but I wanted to commend you on your blog title design. The typeface choices, font color and the magnifying glass, are perfect.

What fun pants to wear. I think all the outfits are great, especially the last one, quite casual. My partner and I just visited a bar where I am sure th patrons would definitely like all the poses, especially the rear-view!

Bonjour Monsieur Le Pirate, très jolie chemise à carreaux et également rayures. J’ai apprécié les différentes poses, un peu surjouées parfois….

PS mon français est toujours traduit bizarrement 🙂

I like the first “pirate” look the best. It is all one theme. Your sewing skills look good to me as well. You probably already know this, but I have seen buttons with anchors on them that would really fit in well with the rest of the nautical theme.

That was exactly what I was looking for initially until I decided not to go ahead with the traditional nautical look but agreed, it would have looked good!
